At ‘iconspirit studios’
the whole process of writing an icon is a theological journey
from the bare board of the crucifixion to the luminous colours
of the resurrection.
At ‘iconspirit studios’ the writing of icons is according
to traditional techniques. These I have learnt over the years
through several courses in iconography; the history of
iconography, scripture and iconography and conciliar
iconography. As well as practical courses; such as drawing the
icon, painting, gilding and designing the icon.
Initially I trained as an art teacher and became inspired by
icons while studying Pastoral Theology at Heythrop College
London. My studies at Leuven University for a master’s degree in
Religious Studies encouraged me to look at Religious art from a
wider perspective. But still, for me, the orthodox icon offers
in a profound way in which to express my Christian faith.
While teaching Religious studies, philosophy and ethics at
secondary school level, I encouraged the students to use
iconography as a visual way to study the Christian religion.
I am a member of the British Association of Iconographers
www.BAI.org and participated in their 2009 Exhibition. I have
staged several exhibitions in Jersey and France.
‘iconspirit studios’ was set in November 2008 to fulfil a
passion for writing icons.
